150 Orcish Names

War and raid, brutal and savage, warband and camp, beast and hunt, dread and dark — every name grown from a plain English word you can see. Copy one and go.

What Makes a Name Sound Orcish

Four sound habits do all the work. Spot them below and you can judge any orcish name at a glance — or invent your own.

War-camp prefixes

Gruk-, Nar-, Waaaagh-, Gorr-, Bash-

Every name opens with one of five prefixes, like a call barked across the camp before the name itself. Waaaagh- is the loudest of the five — save it in your head for names that need to sound like a war cry.

Clipped endings

-az, -ugh, -grr, -ok, -ak

Names close on a hard, short sound instead of trailing off, the way a grunt gets cut off mid-breath. -grr in particular reads like a growl you can hear.

Crushed vowels

gloomy → Gorrglomyok, haunted → Gorrhantedok

Doubled vowels get flattened to one so the word stays blunt — gloomy becomes glomy, haunted becomes hanted. Say the name aloud and the seed word is still right there, just chewed a little.

Meaning stays visible

warpath → Bashwarpatak

The English seed survives inside the name, so anyone who hears it gets what it means. Pick a seed that fits the character and the name explains itself before you say a word about them.

How to Pick the Right One

Say it like a bark, not a sentence. An orcish name should land in one hard breath — if it flows too smoothly, it is not orcish enough.
Match the seed to the role. The English word under each name is its meaning. A scout named after "tracker" writes its own backstory.
Shorter reads meaner. Gut and Bane land harder than a five-syllable warlord title — save the long ones for bosses.
Try it without the flavor. Drop the WAAAAGH-length prefix in your head and check the root still sounds right on its own.
Steal the pattern, not just the name. If nothing here fits, take a prefix and an ending and build your own from any word you like.

War & raid names

Front-line commanders and the goblins — sorry, orcs — who lead the charge. Battle and campaign seeds come out sounding like a war-camp title shouted across a field.

The orc who never leaves a gate standing — a raid-leader gamertag.

Waaaaghplundegrr

A warlord who counts victory in loot, not honor.

Bashwarpatak

Short and unstoppable — good for a single-minded boss NPC.

Grukinvadeaz

The name that arrives before the army does.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use these orcish names for D&D characters or online games?

Yes — that is what they are for. War and raid names suit commanders and raid leaders; brutal and savage names fit berserkers and pit-fighters; beast and hunt names work for rangers and beast-riders; dread and dark names make strong final bosses. Use them as-is or as a starting point for your own.

Are these real orc names from a game or franchise?

No. Every name here is original, built for this site's own fictional orcish language. It draws on the general feel of fantasy orc speech but is not taken from, or affiliated with, any author, studio or published setting — so you can use it freely without borrowing anyone else's lore.

How were these names made?

Each name starts as the plain English word shown under it and is reshaped by the same sound patterns the Orcish translator on this site applies — war-camp prefixes like Gruk- and Waaaagh-, clipped endings like -az and -grr, and crushed vowels. A name you build with the translator will sound like it belongs on this list.

Why do some names get a long prefix and others get a short suffix?

The translator picks the prefix or suffix based on the seed word itself, the same way it does everywhere else on the site, so the choice is consistent rather than random — the same seed always produces the same name. That is also why every name here is guaranteed unique: no two seeds land on the same prefix, root and suffix combination.

Do these work as gamertags, clan tags or Discord server names?

Yes. Most fit standard gamertag length limits as written. For clan or server names, the warband-and-camp column reads best — Kinsmen and Tribe-rooted names sound like a group, not a single character. Beast and hunt names are popular picks for hunting-focused guilds and PvP handles.
