Sound & Pronunciation Guide
Alien draws from a closed set of ten syllables — za, vra, om, xen, sha, kel, thur, vek, rai, sai — recombined instead of invented fresh each time, which is why every word feels like it belongs to the same species even when you have never seen it before.
maku-drak (coffee)
Compound of maku (food/consumable) and drak (fire). Read Alien compounds by feel, not word-for-word — maku-drak lands as "the dark energy drink," not a literal match. Build your own compounds the same way: pick two roots that capture the feeling you want, not an exact translation.
xenor-vra (space / alien)
The same compound covers both "space" and "alien" because the language treats "vast outside" and "thing from vast outside" as the same root idea, just used in different grammatical slots.
c → k, f/ph → v
Swap hard English sounds for softer ones from the set: c becomes k, f and ph both become v. Try it yourself — "coffee" keeps its shape as maku-drak once you make that swap, and the same trick works on any word you improvise.
x → "xen"
Any English x expands into a full xen- syllable rather than staying a single letter, which is why xenu (see) and xenor (world) both carry that same weighty opening.
sha (yes / good)

How the Alien Translator Works
The Alien Translator works from a small, self-consistent phoneme set — za, vra, om, xen, sha, kel, thur, vek, rai, sai — recombined into new words rather than picked at random, so nothing ever sounds like static.
Recognized letters get quietly remapped during translation: c becomes k, f and ph both collapse into v, y turns into i, and x expands into "xen." That consistent substitution is why "coffee" becomes maku-drak and not something unpronounceable.
Sentence structure stays close to English — subject, verb, object — with articles dropped for a cleaner, more alien cadence. Anything outside the built-in dictionary gets phonetically rebuilt from the same syllable bank and suffixed with -en, -ar, -um, -ai or -ora, so unknown words never break the illusion.
How to Speak Alien
Stick to the core sounds. Every Alien word leans on the same handful of syllables — za, vra, om, xen, sha, kel, thur, vek, rai, sai. When you're improvising a word or a name, reuse these instead of inventing new sounds, and it'll pass as Alien instead of gibberish.
Build new words by combining two you already know instead of making one up from scratch. Coffee is maku-drak (food + fire), bathroom is nela-oma (water + place). Need a word the phrasebook doesn't have? Pair two roots that capture the idea and mash them together — that's how you grow the language yourself.
Keep it calm and flat. Skip exclamation marks and hype words — no "wow," no "!!!". Speak in plain, composed statements about peace, balance and cycles instead of outbursts, and read your lines evenly rather than dramatically. That flat, procedural delivery is what makes a line sound like first contact instead of a movie monster.
